The Illustrious Official College of Physicians of Valencia has issued a statement showing its “absolute indignation” over the Health report linking doctors’ relaxation periods to increased contagion. According to this internal note from Xàtiva-Ontinyent’s health department, infections among professionals occur “during periods of leisure, rest, lunches and meals“of relaxation after all.
Following that report of 3 September, which this Thursday covers THE PROVINCES, ICOMV is calling for what it considers unacceptable in view of its work since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. “It seems to have become a matter of course that the health sector has gone from heroes to villains. Doctors have not only been on the front lines to save lives and overcome the pandemic, putting the lives of others before their own, but to this day they are still at the bottom of the barrel, working tirelessly,” recalls the Illustrious College of Physicians of Valencia.
The professionals ask that the authorities do not send a “wrong message” to the population and recall that in these last months of tension there are constant attacks from society, “both physical and verbal”. In addition, the doctors stress their right to rest and enjoy leisure with responsibility and ask the Health Department if it is possible to know where the contagion between professionals is occurring. “We are much more likely to be infected than other sectors,” they add.
For all these reasons, ICOMV calls for the dismissal of the management of the Xàtiva-Ontinyent health department (in charge of drafting the report) for launching a note that is a “direct attack on the professionalism” of the guild. “Health workers are working with all possible means to fight the coronavirus and cannot afford any more attacks,” concludes the statement issued by ICOMV.
