The 70% of people admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) of the La Fe Hospital in Valencia are patients with coronaviruses, and the occupancy of ICU beds and hospital beds for patients with and without coronaviruses is already at “worrying levels”.
This was indicated to EFE by Ricardo Gimeno, clinical head of Intensive Care Medicine at La Fe, who nevertheless stressed that for the time being no patient has ever been left without an ICU bed, or without receiving proper care.
Gimeno pointed out that the intensive care units of the hospitals of the Valencia Region are beginning to become saturated, mainly due to the entry of patients covid-19, and some hospitals have “practically full” of ICU beds.
In the case of La Fe Hospital, he explained that almost two thirds of ICU patients are covid patients, since it is a large hospital and a reference unit receive patients from other centers.
Gimeno has pointed out that the smaller the hospitals, the higher the occupancy rate, which is leading some centres to to provide beds similar to those in the ICU in other facilitiesor to send patients to other hospitals.
On the other hand, sources from the CSIF have pointed out that this Wednesday the ICUs are saturated in the hospitals of Vinaròs, Castellón, La Plana, el Clínico de Valencia, Elda and Orihuelaas well as the The Clinic and Orihuela resuscitation units.
